How much do you charge and what services are included in your rate charge?
Initial interior design consultation fees, whether for home or office, are billed hourly. Rates range from $120-$150 per hour. Initial consultations typically take 1 to 3 hours and are conveniently provided in the locale of your choice. If, after the consultation, you wish to proceed to a design agreement of 10 hours or more, your initial consultation fee will be waived.

If you decide to have a member of our design team select, present and implement an entire scheme for a room, a home, an office or a commercial property (including hotels, inns, apartments, office lobbies, etc.), you will be presented with a Design Agreement outlining the design services and estimated hours. The total number of hours estimated will be invoiced at the hourly rate of $120-$150. The higher fee is generally charged for kitchen and bathroom design, while the lower rate is for other services we provide.

Upon acceptance and signing of the agreement, the designer will make a presentation of your project, complete with flooring and fabric samples, photos of furniture and accessories selected for your scheme, detailed floor plans and, in some cases, renderings and color boards. Renderings and color boards are only included if they were originally contracted in your design agreement.

Clients who opt for a design agreement of 10 hours or more will receive a 10 - 20% reduction (on average) from retail pricing on most of their purchases (excluding accessories). Items ordered by Garrett Interiors require a 60% deposit, with the balance due upon the delivery. We also offer warehousing of purchases (rates available on request) for customers who prefer a one-time installation of their entire project, rather than intermittent deliveries.

Garrett Interiors also offers a "design phase" program for projects that involve more than just a one-room design. For clients building new homes or undertaking extensive remodeling, special design agreements are written in phases to optimize the design experience during what can be an extensive and often stressful building process. Please inquire if the design phase program is best suited for your project.

Do you offer only ready-made furniture or can you customize?
We carry over 300 different lines of furniture including Kreiss, Lane and Drexel Heritage. But, many times retail-line furniture may not fit that one space in your home. It is on these occasions that we offer our clients an array of experienced woodcrafters capable of building and customizing any type of furniture including deluxe entertainment centers, kitchen cabinets, dining room chairs, sofas, coffee and end tables, glass doors and desks. We can also reupholster and refinish your present furniture, making it look new and refreshed, which may be a better alternative for a more restrictive budget.

Why would I choose your interior design firm when I can just go to Home Depot or another self-help store?
Most people connect hiring an interior design firm with expense. Going to a self-help store can in many ways save you money but more often than not your questions regarding the design of your home really don't get answered and you are still left in a quandary as to what really is the best paint color, furniture, or flooring for your home. Actually, hiring an interior designer can save you money and it will most definitely save you time and frustration. An interior designer can work up an entire plan for your home, carefully listing and estimating all the items that will be necessary to complete your plan. This can all be done in a matter of days and then you have the option of purchasing all the items at once, or more commonly, in gradual steps. Designers can offer most of their clients a savings of 20% or more off of retail listed pricing and quite generally, these reduced savings compare favorably against all those "sale" prices you see consistently in newspapers and store windows. With a little bit of planning, many expenses can be avoided and in the end the customer has received a far better product that will last for years to come.

What is the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator?
There isn't a difference, however, in order for most interior designers to be recognized by their industry as a Certified Interior Designer (CID), they must study in certified, design schools, graduate and then apprentice for sometimes six years or more. Commonly, an interior decorator is referenced to someone who may not be certified in interior design, although this is not always the case.

What if all I want is draperies for my living room or have my grandmother's antique sofa reupholstered? Will you do just that?
Yes. We have many fabrics for you to choose from and we will pick-up and deliver your furniture at no charge. For draperies, we will have someone come out and measure your windows. You pick the fabric you desire. We'll order it, make your draperies in our workroom and have them hung in your home in no time. The same efficient service applies to your grandmother's sofa. We'll help you pick out new fabric. Then, we'll pick up the sofa from your home, reupholster it and deliver it right back to your doorstep. Just give us a call! It's that easy.
